The holiday season is a fitting time to reflect on caregiving in all its many forms and how our in-home care franchise helps loved ones celebrate together. Whether you’re caring for someone or being cared for by someone, it’s a good time to remember that care is what makes every life possible.
There are only four kinds of people in the world:
those who have been caregivers,
those who are currently caregivers,
those who will be caregivers,
and those who need caregiving.

The Lifecycle of Care
Every human being who’s lived beyond infancy has only done so because of the care they received from another. Many of us don’t fully appreciate the vital role caretaking plays in our lives until we have children of our own. And, more and more, as life expectancies continue to rise, we find ourselves caring for our aging parents as well.
The Sandwich Generation
Perhaps the best way to appreciate care’s cyclical nature is by considering today’s generation of people responsible for bringing up their own children and the care of their aging parents. A 2018 Pew Research poll found that one in ten parents in the United States was also caring for an adult. And with baby boomers aging over the coming decades, Millennials and Generation Z are on course to assume the Sandwich Generations’ mantle.
Caregiving Now Crosses Generations
In its 2019 C.A.R.E Study, Northwestern Mutual asked 1400 respondents to estimate the total number of years they expect to spend caring for a dependent throughout their lifetime. The study showed that 18% of adults said they assumed they’d need to provide care for between 11 and 20 years. And as our caregiving roles grow in complexity and duration, so too does society’s need for professional caregivers.
A Need for Professional Caregivers from Across the Continuum
The vast majority of aging Americans – a full 90 percent – wish to age at home for as long as possible. This cultural and general shift is spurring an ever-growing demand for professional caregivers. While Interim is at the forefront of helping grow healthcare’s recruiting pipeline, our more than 300 franchises across the country are helping meet today’s needs as well.
A Strong Demand for In-Home Care Franchises Means a Sound Investment
Interim HealthCare is the leader in home and hospice care, and the demand for our full continuum of service only grows. If you’ve always wanted to start your own business and have an inclination to do work that helps others, there’s never been a better time to invest in Interim HealthCare.
A Chance to Say Thank You
For those of us who are fortunate enough to spend the holidays with our loved ones, it’s a great time to reflect on the many types of caregiving that have made our celebrating together possible. And at Interim, we’re grateful to all our franchisees and their staff of professional caregivers for making it possible for families across the country to spend this time with each other.
